From Madame CJ Walker, the first female, self-made millionaire to Donyale Luna, the first Black female supermodel, Black people have been making strides in every industry imaginable, but it hasn’t always been easy. We often hear people talk of “Diversity and Inclusion”, but what does that truly mean? Verna Myers said “Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” Black History Month is a great time for all of US to reflect on how we’re working to create a more inclusive brand -- as well as a more inclusive world. Our differences are what make us stronger, and having diverse voices at the table will only make us better.

“Children perceive and internalize images around them. When children play with toys, that feature images that look like them, they have the opportunity to be affirmed and engage in imaginative play in a very personal way.”

This February, as we look to highlight the contributions of Black people, we wanted to share some authentic experiences. We asked 20 Black business owners and Black models what Diversity and Inclusion means to them and why it’s important in all facets of business. We’ve included some of our favorite quotes here, but stay tuned to our social channels to hear all of their inspiring stories.
